My sweetheart-another post from mom

I adore this dog! Melanie is a gracious, good-hearted soul. I took her to her first adoption event yesterday. She was the poster dog for good manners. She was pointer smiles all day. Melanie's capacity for joy and good humor never ceases to amaze me. Whether it is my nieces and nephews coming by to visit or my friend with her foster, Melanie is there all smiles and waggy tail. She keeps her head about her though- no jumping or barking, no rough play with kids. Anyone who applies for precious Melanie must be prepared for some serious questions from me:)
Melanie-director of canine social services

Mom gave me a job title. Apparently my specialty around here is making everyone feel good. A few weeks ago, it was the puppy Briar, who I introduced to living in a canine family. Now my newest project is Eliza. She is a sweet little thing, but I have to tell her all about the toys and how we use them. I certainly don't mind being given a job around here. Keeping everyone in tail wagging good humor is no problem for me.

I have a twin!

Well, if you see the pictures of me playing with a smaller version of myself, that is the puppy, Briar. As I may have mentioned, she is in a foster home (the same one as me). We look so much alike-both adorable liver and white dogs-only she is a puppy. I never knew being in a foster home could be some fun-so much going on! Here I am with my "little twin" playing (and playing and playing!!!)
Let's Play!

I have barely had time to write! I have been so busy playing with the puppy. She is a "foster" just like me. Only she is 12 weeks old- and all she wants to do is PLAY! That is ok with me-I really do get along with everyone-so spending some time wrestling with Briar is just fine. Ceres, my gsp sister and I wrestle, too. I know I am 4 years old, but I still like to play like the puppies do.

Wanted: a family of my own!

Melanie here! I have to tell you that I am loving my foster family. My poodle brother lets me sleep on the bed with him so we can both be close to mom. My gsp sis is like my own puppy. I lay on the floor with her and we play wrestle and cuddle. We all run to the kitchen when it is time to eat. I stand right in my spot and wait for my food. I love my walks! As soon as I hear the jingle of the leashes, I run from wherever I am and nudge mom to put the leash over my head. I walk on leash pretty well, too.
Anyway, my foster family loves me but it is their job to find me a family I can call my own. So, if you are looking for a devoted dog who will fit right in, I may be who you are looking for. You will know its me-'cause my tail wags all the time (even at the vet) and I haven't met a person or dog yet that I didn't want to make my friend.
Birds!

Here I am at Seneca Hunt Club. Mom took me and my foster sis to check out the birds. I couldn't get enough! I sniffed and snuffled and pointed the birdies. What a fun morning. Normally, I am a laid back girl, but being around all the birds, dogs, and people-I beamed from ear to ear. Look at my picture-I am smiling!!!

Fun in the Sun!

Hi, me Melanie here! I have to tell you, I am LOVING trotting around the backyard at my foster home. My foster sister is digging a huge hole, and I am happy to zip around watching the mud fly! I like the squirrels and the sound of birds. I have been investigating all the smells in the pine trees and along the fence. After 10 minutes or so of running around, I am happy to lay on the patio and soak up the sun. All the time my tail is going a mile a minute, this is the life. Mom is helping me find my furever home, and I know she will make sure it includes more of this-good food, green grassy yard, and people who love me.
In Praise of middle aged pointers... a word from mom

There is something to be said for a genteel adult dog with impeccable manners and a gentle way about him/her. Now I love my puppy, don't get me wrong. But having such a little lady in the house is truly wonderful. Melanie is a total sweetheart. She goes potty outside no problem, no chewing, crates easily, so far is trustworthy in the house. This lady dog adores people follows us around on her delicate little tip toes. What a cutie pie!
Little Miss Melanie is a getalong gal!

Mom is right! I love people & dogs! I had a great time overnighting with Roger and Anne and their dear little pointer ladies. But as soon as I got to Rockford and met my foster family-my tail started going again! My foster brother is a huge poodle, but he and I get along just fine. My foster sister is a loony gsp puppy and I think her and I will be fast friends. Just show me where my food bowl is, lead me to the couch, and I will be one happy girl. Mom thinks I even smile. Cute, huh?
